Your Puppy’s 1st Vet Appointment
Your puppy’s first vet visit should be scheduled within 72 hours of going home. This early appointment is important for establishing care, confirming your puppy’s health, and making sure your vet has all the documentation they need to set up future care and vaccinations.
What to Bring
Your puppy will go home with a folder that includes all of the following:
Vaccination and deworming records
Fecal exam results (your puppy’s fecal has already been tested and is clear)
Spay/neuter contract or certificate
Microchip information
Please take this folder with you to your first appointment and give it to your vet’s office so they can update their records.
No Shots Needed
Your puppy will not need any additional vaccinations at this first visit. We follow a carefully timed schedule that prioritizes your puppy’s immune system and long-term health. We give their first vaccine right around 8 weeks. The next vaccine is due approximately four weeks after going home. Your vet may offer to give a vaccine that day, but it’s not necessary. Simply bring your puppy in for a wellness check.
Things to Ask at the Appointment
This visit is a great time to:
Discuss future vaccine appointments
Schedule or plan for spay/neuter
Ask about flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
Review feeding schedule and growth expectations
Check in about any questions or concerns you’ve noticed since bringing your puppy home
